Harriet
I am a sculptural basket maker exploring the intersection of craft, art and design. I harvest plant materials from the surrounding bush, coastal gardens and beaches and salvage rusted and decaying farm detritus and weave them into objects of textural beauty and function for modern spaces. Basketry is non-machinated, therefore it eschews manufacturing and consumerism. I look for broken or discarded remnants from industrial or agricultural manufacturing and make them significant again weaving in elements from nature.
My creations reference both the ephemeral beauty of nature; feathers, pods, cocoons, bones, nests, quills and the detritus of industrial manufacturing; rusted corrugated iron, furniture, machinery, wire. Inspiration comes from the delicate tonal colour changes in the Australian landscape and the form and patina of the materials available in the season or place. The practice of weaving is meditative, drawing from the timelessness of ancient knowledge and women making remarkable functional objects without tools.
In my workshops, people learn which plants from their surroundings are suitable to collect and prepare and how to weave them into a sculptural random weave basket. I am currently making sculptural basketry for exhibition and designing and making pendant lights for public and private commission.
I live outside beautiful Robertson, NSW, Australia with my beloved fella Mat Campbell, our son Banjo and baby Clementine. In 2005 Mat and I co-founded Warp & Weft a small ethical business importing organically dyed, hand spun textiles from Peru and Argentina which we operate from market stalls at weekly markets and festivals. Mat has just planted his first commercial garlic crop.

Hi Harriet,
Henry sent me your link. I think we may have met briefly.
I was also talking to Keren here at B.
I was wondering whether you might be interested in doing some weaving here at Riversdale on the day of our HOT Country Festival January 15. You could come and be in residence at Riversdale in the week prior. I think it would be a great thing to engage visitors.
What do you think?
What sort of fee would you request.
HOT Country will have musicians ; Neil Murray, Stiff Gins, Felicity Urquhart and the Wagons; tree house installation; art workshops with Mary here (eg design your bandana and decorate your straw hat); ukulele lesson; whip cracking and generally good relaxing fun.
Does this appeal?
Best wishes
Regina

Thanks Jeanie, kind words.
I am possibly going to be stocked by a Melbourne store soon but for now you can email me directly to commission a piece (can be a basket or light and can be wired to your dimensions) or if you see a basket in Recent Work that you like, let me know and I’ll email you directly with a price. I can take CC details over phone and post the basket directly to you.

Hi Harriet!
Charlie & I are in the process of renovating our house & researching pendant lights.
We were curious to know how much you might charge for one approximately 20-30cm in diameter?
Hope you are well & look forward to hearing from you.
Cheers, Jeans.
Hi Harriet,
I have just been looking at all your beautiful baskets and think they are fab. We have a fund raising event for Sticks and stones and we are on the search for artists. Do you have an email address/ phone number that i can send you more information regarding.

Hi Harriet, I have just started a eco store focusing on upcycled, sustainable and ethical products in northern Tasmania. A friend Jocie Johnston suggested i have a look at your website. Your baskets are absolutely stunning! Am curious as to whether you wholesale and if so if you could give me an estimate of pricepoints??
I look forward to hearing from you.
Kind Regards
Skye Landy
Thanks Skye, I would love to sell to your super-sounding store (love Tassie!) but at the moment I am completely swamped (hence the delayed response- sorry!). When things quieten down a bit and if I have some baskets available for wholesale I will definitely be in touch.
I can email you a wholesale pricelist for Warp & Weft which is our fair trade imports business selling beautiful hand-made textiles from South American weavers. We have gorgeous belts, bags, beanies, gloves, headbands etc. all hand-made and lovely.
Email info@warpandweft.org if you are interested.
Warm wishes,
Harriet

Hi Harriet
I am from the newly reopened cheese factory cafe and I now realise your imported gloves and hats are being sold by Francis. I go to the winter magic festival every year and am so excited to know you are in Robertson. I have bought one of the gorgeous hats from you. We are exhibiting artists works in the cafe and also handmade items and ceramics. Wendy who works with us suggested I contact you to see if you would like to exhibit your baskets. They are just beautiful. We are having a cafe opening and launch of our artists works, Becky Guggisberg and Auguste Blackman on Sat 8 August from 4-6pm so please come along if you are free. I work Tues and Wed and at the weekend – although weekends are not the best time to come in for a chat, I would love to meet you,
Thanks
Susan
