Last weekend I gave myself the best mother’s day present and flew up to Byron Bay with friend (mother/psychologist/creative spirit) to do an art workshop with sculptor Jade Oakley. Jade, who I discovered is also a 35 year old with a 3 year old boy (serendipity), makes breathtaking mobiles and I hoped that I might learn some new skills working with wire and paper to incorporate into my lights.
We had such an inspiring weekend. Jade was a gentle teacher and very generous with sharing her technique. I loved every minute of it and have already been putting new ideas into practice in my studio.
Here is my first ever mobile. (Don’t look too closely! I haven’t finished some of the loops – I am waiting to get a pair of jewellers pliers)
Thanks to lovely Dom from Art Workshops Australia.
